DISTURBED's DAVID DRAIMAN On Upcoming Tour: 'We Intend To Variate Our Live Set As Much As Possible'

DISTURBED will hit the road next spring in support of its new album, "Immortalized". The trek kicks off on March 11 in Vancouver, Canada, wrapping up on April 10 in Memphis. The band will be playing smaller venues on this run, from Irving Plaza in New York to the Fillmore in San Francisco, in order to give diehard fans a more up-close experience before the group hits bigger venues.

Singer David Draiman told Artisan News the band has some surprises planned for its live show. "We've written probably about a hundred [songs] over the course of our career," he said (see video below). "We've got lots of songs that we've never played live, that's for damn sure, or songs that we haven't played live in a very, very long time, and that's something that we're definitely committed to doing this cycle. We intend to variate our live set as much as possible. And hopefully every time somebody's coming to see a DISTURBED show, they're seeing a different show. [It's] time to dip into the catalog."

According to Draiman, he and his bandmates will have to brush up on a number of DISTURBED classics on the upcoming trek in an effort to keep things interesting for the fans.

"Let me tell you, there are gonna be numerous periods of time during this touring cycle where we're gonna need to brush up on stuff if we're gonna bring some of the oldies but goodies out. No doubt," he said. "I don't have a photographic memory, by any means; it probably has something to do with my weed consumption. [Laughs] Yeah, we'll probably have our own little individual homework assignments from time to time."

Draiman, however, is quick to point out that DISTURBED can only get so adventurous with its setlist before disappointing some of its diehard fans, many of whom are expecting to hear the band's biggest songs.

"You never want to feel like you're going through the motions, and so you always need to reconnect yourself to where the song came from to begin with, each time you perform it," he said. "But, yeah, variety is the spice of life for everybody, to a certain extent. It's just it's a tough battle, because people wanna hear the hits too, and so you have to have a nice balance. If you don't give them at least a little bit of what they're coming to hear, you deal with an unhappy fan, which we don't want. So we have to find that happy balance."

Fans who attend DISTURBED's first show in four years — scheduled for August 21 at the House of Blues in the band's hometown of Chicago — will likely only hear a couple of new songs mixed in with DISTURBED classics. "Out of the gate, we can only be very sparing with it — not only because… Well, primarily because there isn't enough awareness yet," Draiman explained. "But… There's only one show we're playing in 2015, and that's at the House Of Blues in Chicago the day of record release. And then we're not doing anything until 2016. Part of the issue with keeping something a secret for so long is you can't plan for it until it's no longer a secret. So we are a little behind with that. But… Yeah, we're just chomping at the bit, man. We can't wait to get back out there."
